Abstract

The aim of present Formulation and Evaluation Sustained Release Matrix Tablet was to enhance the solubility of Glipizide. Glipizide is an oral anti-diabetic agent with relatively short elimination half-life. The sustained release drug delivery was a promising approach to achieve a prolonged therapeutic action of drug. The matrix forming polymers, HPMC K-100M, Xanthan gum alone & in combination were studied. Formulation F9 containing HPMC K- 100M & Xanthan gum in combination successfully release drug for more than 12 hrs. Emerging as best formulation. The amount of drug release for optimized formula F9 became observed to be 99.79%. The cumulative percentage drug was reduced through growth in polymer attention. FTIR studies proved that there was no chemical interaction in drug and polymer of the developed matrix tablets. The tablets were evaluated for various tests like hardness, friability, disintegration and in-vitro dissolution studies.
